Opening the galley

A full gut of a 1970s galley. We're keeping the footprint, widening the pass-through, and finishing in warm oak and soft limestone. The goal is a kitchen that reads as calm from the living room — no apron clutter, no busy backsplash.

Island template locked: 96" oak with a recessed toe and matte limestone. Outlets go under the overhang, not on the apron.

Budget checkpoint · Week 14

Cabinetry ran +12% versus estimate because of custom drawers. Stone is holding. We're delaying decorative lighting until after paint so the electrician can return once.

Open shelving and pendant lights over the sink
Open shelving on the lake wall — fewer uppers, more light bouncing into the room.

Electric rough-in is tomorrow. After that: drywall patch, paint, then the limestone top lands.

Before demo — original galley cabinets
Before: the original galley — dark, closed, and hungry for daylight.

Love the recessed toe — keeps the sightline clean from the living room.

Any chance of a sample of the limestone in afternoon light? Referring to the island photo above.

Same — afternoon light would help decide if we warm the under-cabinet LEDs.
